MassMutual Center Seeking Large Scale Artwork for Convention Center
MassMutual Center seeking artwork for 2nd installment of Art at the MassMutual Center, Community Arts Program.
Global Spectrum, operators of the MassMutual Center, in coordination with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, are seeking large scale 2D artwork from artists, artisans, and/or designers to develop interior public artwork(s) for long-term display within the Convention Center. The nine month display will highlight five local artists. The art will be displayed in various areas within the Convention Center with the majority of the pieces being located in the large pre-function area located outside the Exhibition Hall of the MassMutual Center.
As part of the growing awareness and appreciation about art, the MCCA and Global Spectrum brought the same Community Arts Program to the Pioneer Valley in 2014 to showcase the artwork of local artists throughout Western Massachusetts. Looking to continue the mission of showcasing local art in Downtown Springfield, the MassMutual Center will be looking for a new collective of talented artists throughout Western Massachusetts to display to their thousands of visitors throughout the year.
Currently on exhibit, “5 Narratives,’ is the result of a juried competition and is on view through October 2014. Julia Courtney, curator of the Springfield Museums, Loretta Yarlow, director of the UMass Museum of Contemporary Art, and Aprile Gallant curator of prints at the Smith College Museum of Art served as jurors. This inaugural exhibition features multiple works from five local artists including: Imo Nse Imeh, Lydia Nettler, Tom Wyatt, Faith Lund, and Laura Radwell.
All applicants must be at least 18 years old with priority going to residents of Western Massachusetts. All artwork must be submitted to the MassMutual Center by Friday, October 10, 2014. Applicants must submit a resume, artist statement, 4-6 images of current work on a CD saved in JPEG format, contact information including email address, and a $25 entry fee.
